Kids at the Beach

Image
With perfect timing, this week's theme has kids (both human and animal) in it with this Sepia Saturday prompt.

This is the Ipswich, Massachusetts range light. It's actually the rear and the taller of two light houses. Range lights work when you line up the lights out at sea. They were meant to help guide your boat through the difficult shoals of Ipswich Bay and on into Ipswich and Parker Rivers.

The keeper's house is in back of this lighthouse and that's the focus of this Sepia Saturday post. Those happy kids you see below are having a party inside that house. That's me in front of the window.

The upper photo is dated around 1937 and by the time this party rolled around there were some significant changes to the landscape. That lighthouse was discontinued and replaced with a simple skeleton tower with an automated light. The lighthouse was packed up and barged to Martha's Vineyard and is a working beacon there to this very day. The keeper's house was given…

Fort Warren - Georges Island
Boston Harbor, Massachusetts

Fort Warren is now a Nation Historic Site administered by the U. S. National Park Service. It defended the city of Boston from 1833 to 1950. It was the site of prison of war camp during the Civil War. Confederate officers and government officials. James M. Mason and John Slidell, the Confederate diplomats seized in the Trent Affair, were among those held at the fort. High ranking civilians held at Fort Warren include Confederate Vice President Alexander Stephens and Confederate Postmaster General John Reagan.

Georges Island is known to be haunted by the ghost of the "Lady in Black." Can you imaging spotting her here late at night?

Chill Fox Media's New Logo

Image
In an effort to strengthen the branding of my social media management business I commissioned the work of João Vitor Queiroz Prado, of Brazil, to design a logo along the fox theme. I'm very pleased with his work.

João is a talented young artist who lives in São Paulo.  He attends Zipora Rubenstein High School and is the student body president there. Even though he is only in his junior year he already has plans to attend New York University in Manhattan to become a graphic designer. He is also a talented photographer.

Although he doesn't have a particular favorite sport I know he likes soccer (football) as we have had many discussions about the World Cup when it was held in Rio and of course the upcoming summer Olympics.

His friends gave him the nickname "little bear," and that has become a theme in his life as the logo of his graphic design business is a bear. Click on the bear for a link to his graphic design business.

Some Kisses Aren't Just a Kiss

Image
This week's Sepia Saturday prompt features a kiss. This was my parent's 25th wedding anniversary August 4, 1976. My sisters and I planned this event. How we were able to keep it a secret from them is still a surprise to me. Their very best friends, another couple took them out to Sunday brunch. By the time they arrived home from brunch the field next to our house was filled with cars. The house was filled with guests and decked out. My father wasn't one to make a big deal of things so this was the only way we could have gotten him to go along with this.

When someone throws a party is at your own home I guess you can't avoid it. For other great kisses go to Sepia Saturday by clicking here.

This week's shadow shot is more of a reflection and silhouette than it is a shadow. I though the effect was interesting though. Posted for Shadow Shot Sunday 2.

Mystery of the Missing Fountain

Image
This week's Sepia Saturday prompt shows a fountain. These postcards show a beautiful fountain topped off by a gilded horse. Actually this was a horse watering station on the corner of High and Auburn Streets in Newburyport, Massachusetts.
It's labelled on the card as the Taggart Fountain. No one seems to know what became it. I've asked around and all I get are evasive answers. Perhaps it went into a scrap heap after it lived its useful life? Perhaps it's deterioration was beyond repair? Perhaps politicians turned their backs on it, and now it sits in someone's backyard?
